It's following me...

It follows your every move: every step and every jump. With no end in sight, the shadow lingers just steps behind you.

A short split-screen endless runner made for Coding Blocks Jam 2022 for the theme "It's following me".  Control both the player character and the Shadow! Avoid the obstacles to prevent getting caught while running the shadow into them.

Instructions:

  • Space (Keyboard) or A (Controller) to jump
  • Hold jump button for higher jump
  • Lead the Shadow into furniture while avoiding the obstacles yourself
  • Survive as long as you can

Notes:

- Subtle flashing of lightning

- Creepy imagery might be frightening for some

- Capture sound may be startling for some! Sound muting options coming soon!

- If you click on the screen on a menu, the buttons will lose focus and the keyboard / controller input will stop working. If you encounter this issue, you can use a mouse to click on the button you wish to select. Fix for this issue coming soon!

- There is a rare chance of being stuck under a chandelier while on a table! We're working to fix this. In the mean time, the shadow will eventually break the table and you will be freed or sometimes you will be able to squeeze by.

Loved it! The split screen was a lot of fun, especially once I could see myself on the followers screen. The polish was great too, I remember when I first saw the thing in the window. Spooky! The sound was great too, it was raining when I played and it made it feel extra scary.

I'm glad the weather decided to add to the experience too! Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words! We really appreciate it :)

Very cool!! I got 2390. I really liked the windows and creatures beyond, as well as the implied windows on the other side of the hall.

Edit: I don't know if you discussed this during the jam, but it would have been nice to have the 2 cameras with the split being horizontal, so I can see further ahead of myself/the shadow :)

That's a great score, I think I personally average around 2100 so you've already beat me! Thank you so much for playing!

As for the horizontal split, we discussed and considered early on but we found it was more readible as being chased having the split place the shadow behind you, but we'll take that into consideration for the future options. Thank you for the feedback! :)

Ahh, I didn't think about that perspective. It was easy to read the shadow was in the same space, so the vertical split did accomplish that well!
